Ebony

Ebony means "English, from the dark wood" and comes from English, giving it real etymological depth as a girl's name. It belongs mostly to the 1980s at this point. These days, it is neither rare nor overly common. It has shown up in U.S. birth records across 7 of the last twelve decades.
